Therapies at a glance…

Ayurvedic rejuvenation therapy is a long process, lasting for many days, from 21 days up to 45 days. During rejuvenation therapy, the body is cleaned off accumulated toxic materials (excess fat, chemicals, pathogens, etc). The accumulated body waste is called ama or body toxins. The body is then strengthened with special medicines like Rasayanas. Rejuvenation therapy can also include full- scale panchakarma treatments like sneha- panam (internal oleation), full body massage, elakizhi, njavarakizhi, podi kizhi, narangakizhi, kashayadhara, shirodhara,p izhichil followed with purificatory therapies like vamanam, virechanam, nasyam, kashaya vasthi, sneha vasthi etc.. However, according to the age, physical and mental conditions, and other factors, the doctor may decide to omit one or more procedures from above said therapies. As explained above specially prepared kanji (rice porridge) is also a part of seasonal treatment. This porridge is made of njavara rice which are boiled with ingredients like cumin seed, malli, vizalari, fenugreek, karkokilari, mustard seed, ayamodakom, aashali, dry ginger, putharichundaveru, nutmeg varattumanjal, grambu etc. After cooking coconut milk is added to it and it is also sauted with ghee and onions. This medicated porridge helps in revitalizing the body. What makes Ayurveda effective during this period is that the atmosphere remains dust-free and cool. While the humidity in the air causes breathlessness and weakness, it also opens up the pores allowing medicated and herbal oils to seep thereby restoring the body’s health and vitality.
